Hernán Míguez (1971) is Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council and leader of the Multifunctional Optical Materials group, which he established in 2004 when he joined the Institute of Materials Science of Seville as a tenured scientist. Since then, Prof. Míguez scientific and technological research work has been recognized with an ERC Consolidator Grant and the RSEF-BBVA Physics and Innovation Prize, along with numerous keynote and invited lectures in the most prestigious national and international conferences, universities and research centres. He is a member of the editorial board of Advanced Optical Materials, one of the most prestigious in his field, as well as of the scientific advisory committee and Council of prestigious research centres (ICIQ, INL). He is a member of both the Physical and Chemical Royal Societies of Spain (RSEF and RSEQ) and of the Governing Board of the Condensed Matter Physics Division. He is the Chair of the Materials Science and Technology Panel of the Spanish Research State Agency. Prof. Míguez research is focused on both fundamental and applied aspects of optical materials, with particular emphasis on applications in energy. He is founding partner of several technology based companies, all of them active today.
